Music: Possibility Days

Can’t stop playing the song “Possibility Days” by Counting Crows recently. All the lyrics are pretty good, but the bit below really grabs me for some reason.

“the color of everything changes
the sky rearranges its shade
and your smile doesn’t fade
into a phone call and one bad decision we made
and the worst part of a good day
is the one thing you don’t say
and you don’t know how but you wish there was some way
so you pull down the shades and you shut out the light
cause somehow we mixed up goodbye and goodnight”

Mentally Strong

A friend of mine on Facebook shared one of those inspiring a/o funny text graphics you see all the time. This was a serious one called “6 Things Mentally Strong People Do”. I’m not sure the person who originally posted it is the original creator as it looked like one of those canned images that has been around awhile. I thought the message was powerful enough that I wanted to remember it and strive to follow the things it recommends. So I stripped away the graphic and am just posting the message here so that I can keep reminding myself of it.

6 Things Mentally Strong People Do

  1. They move on. They don’t waste time feeling sorry for themselves.
  2. They embrace change. They welcome challenges.
  3. They stay happy. They don’t waste energy on things they can’t control.
  4. They are kind, fair and unafraid to speak up.
  5. They are willing to take calculated risks.
  6. They celebrate other people’s success. They don’t resent that success.

Review: Flickr Schedulr Freeware

I have finally gotten around to starting to process tons of old digital photos. To top it off I have been learning some new software, having recently received Adobe Lightroom for Christmas (thanks Dad). While doing this I wanted to start uploading my work to Flickr, but instead of uploading in occasional batches of photos as I worked on them, I thought it would be nice to have some system of uploading them spread out over a schedule. I found a couple of different apps that do just that. One PC app called Flickr Shedulr, and one web-based app called PhotoQueue.com.

Flickr Schedulr screenshotSo far I have been using the freeware PC app, called Flickr Schedulr, and I really like it. The first thing you have to do is link it to your Flickr account. This gave me a little trouble at first, but once I got it linked everything has worked great. The app is organized into several different screens or tabs. Read My Full Review →

Chuck Wendig’s 2015 Resolution for Writers

I really dug this post by Chuck Wendig. I wish I had a fraction of this guy’s seemingly effortless ability to write. I know it comes not just from skill, but LOTS of practice. I need to practice a lot more. Anyway, its good advice and inspiration if you want to write, and I’m linking to it here so I don’t forget it.

PS: Be warned. Like much of his blog, he likes to use the full range of the English language, (he likes to use a lot of naughty language,) but I think it helps make the point.

Stone House and tree near sunset
12/24/14 – Stone House and tree near sunset

Sitting on a bench near the end of the day the other day, took this HDR photo of the Stone House at the Bear Creek Green Belt. We had been under a “wave effect” cloud pretty much all day, which you can see at the top of the photo. The sun was just setting, lighting the scene from the horizon under the stationary cloud front.

The golden apples of the sun

WB Yeats 1908Stumbled across this old W. B. Yeats poem in the weirdest of places (a sci-fi show). The mention of this poem interested me enough that I looked the poem up and it meant a lot to me. Wish I could write like this.

Anyway, thought I would quote it here so I won’t forget it. Continue reading The golden apples of the sun

Can you resurrect dead dreams?

A friend of mine posted something on Facebook that really hit me where I live today. I’m going to quote it in it’s entirety here cause I do NOT want to forget this. I’ve looked it up. The source is the book “The Pilgrimage” by Brazilian author Paulo Coelho. You can find this on a page of his blog. I’m going to look into reading “The Pilgrimage” and his novel “The Alchemist” which I read a lot of raves about. Anyway, on to the quote… Continue reading Can you resurrect dead dreams?
