I finished watching Season 1 of The Last Kingdom, the TV series adaptation of the first two books of Bernard Cornwell‘s Saxon series of historical novels set in 9th and 10th century Britain. I liked it a lot and hope they renew it for a second season and continue to adapt the books. Very well done.
This scene from Episode 8 tickled my funny bone. Spoilers ahead so read no further if you want to experience this for yourself….
A viking war lord and his party are confronted by King Alfred and his party, whose spokesman is our hero Uhtred of Bebbanburg.
Skorpa (a viking sword dane, threatening the series protaganist, Uhtred): Did your queen tell you?… That your sister is being humped in the ass each and every night by one-eyed Sven?
Beocca (an aging christian priest in service of King Alfred who helped raise Uhtred): Did your mother tell you that she should have kept her legs closed?!
S (to B): I will look for you across the battlefield!
B: I will be there! And I will not be difficult to find!
King Alfred: He will go to Guthrum?
Uhtred: I believe he will, Lord.
A: Then the battle is one step nearer. Beocca… you should wash out your mouth.
B: Yes, Lord, I will… With ale.
[The king is unable to completely suppress his grin.]
