[UPDATE: check out the much better final version of this poem.]
Listening to a brief autumn thunderstorm move through tonight had me feeling a bit maudlin and inspired me to write this very short bit of poetry.
THUNDER GRUMBLES IN THE NIGHT by Jeffrey Beaty
Thunder grumbles in the night,
Water gurgling in the gutters.
Autumn's last leaves take flight,
Wind rattling the shutters.
Clouds boil up in your eyes.
Does the rain your tears disguise?
In the wind do I hear your sighs?
Does the thunder speak our goodbyes?
