OCC – Photo Diary 2022-10-03
Old Colorado City. Taken from the steps of the OCC branch of Pikes Peak Library on West Pikes Peak Ave, looking southwest down Colbrunn Ct towards Colorado Ave which is OCC’s “main street”. 134 years ago this was the Colorado Springs area’s “red light district”. A dude named “Prairie Dog” O’Byrne (so named because of the prairie dog running in a wheel on the back of his wagon) would race his carriage pulled by two bull elk named “Thunder and Buttons” down Colorado Ave which was then lined with 21 saloons and many houses of ill repute.
